Putin about annexation of Crimea

Charges of Russia that it put pressure during the referendum in Crimea - "ridiculous and silly", were declared by the Russian President Vladimir Putin. He told that annexation of Crimea "wasn't, and isn't present".


The Russian president confirmed that Russian Armed forces were really used on the peninsula, but only for safety reasons during the referendum.

Putin reminded that such elections were held in Crimea for the first time: "We simply asked people that they want. If it's not democracy, what such a thing then democracy is? ".

The referendum about the status of Crimea took place in March, 2014. During the referendum inhabitants of the peninsula supported entry of Crimea into structure of Russia. Nearly 97% of inhabitants of the Crimea voted to join to Russia.
